Method
1. In A 100cm3 conical flask, weigh out 6.00g of Salicylic acid and record the mass used
2. In a fume cupboard fill the Conical flask with 10cm3 of ethanoic anhydride using a measuring
cylinder and stir until dissolved
3. Still in the fume cupboard add five drops of sulfuric acid it ensures all the salicylic acid has
dissolved and mix more.
4. On a heating mantle heat up the flask in a 400cm3 beaker with hot water in to around 60oC but
do not let it goes over 65oC
5. Allow the flask to cool a bit before the liquid into a beaker containing 75cm3 of distilled water
6. Swirl the beaker quickly to allow the solid to precipitate
