1.1.1 BASELINE ASSESSMENT
Is a means of collecting information about a Child’s development or attainment at the
point at which they enter new grade. These assessments are carried out in a variety
of different ways from informal observations to standardized tests. The information
collected from these assessment help educators in fully meeting needs of each
child, highlighting both their strengths and areas of improvement.
1.1.2 FORMATIVE ASSESSMENT
It an assessment that is used to monitor pupil learning style and ability to provide
ongoing feedback and allow educators to improve and adjust their teaching methods
and for students to improve their learning. Example: homework, classwork, test. It is
more of a diagnostic than evaluative.
1.1.3 SUMMATIVE ASSESSMENT
It is the assessment that is done at the end of a term, year, or semester.it is
compared against a universal standard or school benchmark, summative
assessment often have a high point value, take place under controlled conditions
and therefore have more visibility. Example: projects, end of term examinations and
standardized tests.
1.1.4 DIAGNOSTIC ASSESSMENT
It is a form of assessment where teachers can evaluate student’s strengths,
weaknesses, knowledge and skills before their instruction. Diagnostic assessment is
a tool for teachers to better understand what students already know about a topic
when submitted before the start of a course.
1.1.5 RECOGNITION OF PRIOR LEARNING ASSESSMENT
It an assessment that is done when an individual candidate wants to enroll for a
course that he/she meets all the entry requirements. The candidate apply to be
assessed through a recognition of prior learning process. RPL is a rigorous process
whereby candidates must be found competent against the outcomes and
competencies of the registered qualification and designation.
