1. Suppose you are a Grade 9 EMS teacher and you are going to present a
lesson on the topic, “The economy, the circular flow”. Choose a learnercentred
teaching method (excluding the flipped classroom) that you think will be suitable
for this lesson. The lesson must be CAPS aligned (see p 44 of the CAPS
, document). Hint: Discuss the learner-centred method you have chosen by
answering the following questions (provide a relevant heading in each instance):
1.1. Give a detailed description of the learner-centred method you have
chosen. (5)
Inquiry-based learning is a learner-centred teaching method that involves the active
exploration of questions, problems or scenarios, where learners use their prior
knowledge and experiences to generate ideas and hypotheses, research and gather
information, and construct meaning through analysis, reflection and application.
1.2. Explain (using examples) how you will use the method you have
chosen to practically deliver a lesson on the topic, “The Economy,
the circular flow”, by implementing your pedagogical content
knowledge (PCK).

In delivering a lesson on "The economy, the circular flow" using inquiry-based learning, I
would start by introducing the concept of the circular flow of income and expenditure in
the economy. I would then pose a question to the learners, such as: "How does the
circular flow of income and expenditure work in the South African economy?"
