DNP 805 Topic 7 Discussion 1 Describe one technology that you use on a daily basis that you thoroughly like or appreciate. What features or elements does that technology provide to you that make it easy, enjoyable, or necessary to use? Name one element of the technology you would change to improve its functionality for your needs? Computer systems have revolutionized our everyday lives, making it easier and faster to do many important tasks, and often taking over the more mundane jobs. Computers have enabled us to store, process, and retrieve information far more efficiently. They are invaluable in helping us to control, create, calculate, investigate, and communicate more effectively. But there are certain drawbacks in using them. In the modern health center, the GP has a computer in his or her room with a database storing information about the patients, including personal and medical details. On the computer system, there may also be access to additional information, such as new types of medication, clinical trials, details of rare conditions, and links to other facilities such as physiotherapy and nursing care. What I like about computers and what makes them necessary is that they are that they are fast, accurate, capable of working 24 hours per day for 365 days per year, economical with space, less labor intensive, cheaper in the long run, capable of working in conditions that are unsuitable for humans, and less likely to lose information. We use computers every day for work, for personal use, they are, for the most part, a necessity in our lives. As much as we need them and need them in our lives, they seem to never be fast enough, or when you really need to use one for research, homework, and to do your taxes, that seems to be when they fail you. If I could change anything about them, it would be that we would not need to depend on them as much as we do. References What are the advantages and disadvantages in using computers? (2018). What I find frustrating about computers is that they can be a cause of unemployment, they are prone to break down sometimes, they are dependent on electricity, which could fail, they are not always secure in holding confidential information, and they can be expensive to buy, install, and maintain.
