Turnus

Mirror of Aeneas, mum and sister nymph, half divine

B OOK 6:

“a second Achilles is already born in Latium, and he too is the son of a goddess” son of Vanilia

BOOK 7:

“The handsomest of them all” claim on marrying Lavinia “Turnus was lying deep in sleep” “laughing
as he made his reply” when Allecto is trying to bargain with him, not under the influence, true
version of him

“In a frenzy of rage, he roared for his armour” “the lust for battle raged…the criminal madness of
war and above all anger” ira and furor for war

“Filling the hearts of the Rutulians with boldness” stokes racial tensions from the Trojans, echoing
what Allecto said to him

Compared to monsters and Achilles, good armour, taller than the others

BOOK 9:

Obeys Iris’ commands, pious

Wolf simile, “beside himself with anger” “in a fury” “blaze with anger” “boldness and confidence
never wavered” misinterpreted the fates and portents to his own gain

Arrogant “I do not need the armour Vulcan made for Achilles” “I do not need a thousand ships” “we
shall not be hiding in the blind belly of a horse” thinks he is better than Achilles, doesn’t need any
help or protection

“Raging and storming and creating havoc” “his mad lust for blood” “ecstasy of passion” “boiling with
rage” could have ended the war by letting others into the camp but doesn’t

BOOK 10:

Juno tricks Turnus, shade in shape of Aeneas, he runs after him, pathetic portrayal

Tries to kill himself once he’s saved “in despair at his disgrace” Juno holds him back because she
pities him

Mocking “now see whether mine is any better at piercing” sending back “the Pallas he deserves” to
Evander, cruel “planted his left foot on the dead body” “tore of the huge, heavy baldric” – hunter,
disrespect

Taking of the baldric (shows death of young people on it of 50 sons) ends up being his downfall at
the end of book 10- he had it coming (cue cell block tango to start playing)

BOOK 12:
