Introduction
The stage of early childhood development is critical and influences a child's development either
negatively or positively. The process of development can be influenced by either environmental
or biological factors. Biological factors are the internal processes that include genetics and can
influence a child's development in the most crucial times such as in early childhood and prenatal
period. During early childhood, the hormones from the mothers and their DNA can influence
development in a big way. According to research by Ramus (2006), the prenatal factors during
the child’s development will affect the linguistic child’s development while the postnatal factors
affect the cognitive child’s development process. For this part, I will analyze adolescence and
infancy as the two development stages regarding the impact of biological factors.
Infancy is a development stage that has a high impact on the process of a child's development.
During infancy, biological factors such as genetics, brain development, and prenatal exposure to
various substances play a critical role in shaping the future character traits of a child. Genetics
plays a clear and key role in shaping the inherited character traits of a child. The traits are
inherited from the parents or from the same lineage where they may include certain health
conditions. The physical characteristics also inherited from the parents may shape their future
appearance and behaviors. The brain development process is crucial in shaping cognitive and
emotional functioning during infancy (Heberle et al., 2020). The internal process of brain
development should be taken seriously by the parents as what the child will develop will shape
and determine the child's behavior. The brain of a child develops rapidly in various neural ways
which contribute to the development of emotional and cognitive functioning. The neural pathway
facilitates the development of social skills and language acquisition which is critical during the

infancy stage. Prenatal exposure to substances includes exposing the child to drugs and other
substances and are important in determining the infancy child's development. The exposure of a
child during pregnancy plays a critical role in slow development of a child during infancy. This
exposure may also result in behavior problems among the child and difficulty in the learning
process.
Like during infancy, adolescence plays a significant role in a child's development. Biological
factors in this stage include hormones, genetics, and brain development. Brain development
entails strengthening the neural connection that the child adopted during the infancy stage
(Colich et al., 2020). More complex functions of the brain are attained by strengthening the brain
and are crucial for the decision-making process. Genetics, during adolescence, is crucial for
shaping the physical and psychological characteristics of an individual. Inherited characteristics
such as hair color and height are important in shaping the physical characteristics during this
stage. During adolescence, the production and regulation of hormones play a critical role in
shaping the development of secondary sexual behavior of the child among other crucial roles.
Hormones are also responsible for body composition during this development stage such as
mood swings.
As a health professional, I experience differences in the behaviors of my workmates such as
conduct disorder where one of my colleague overuse drugs. His behaviors cause quarrels and
struggle in completing simple tasks at work. Such a defect can be attributed back to the child’s
development stage such as prenatal exposure to substance abuse such as alcohol. The parent may
be using drugs during pregnancy which affects the child and after birth, the child carries on the
behavior of the mother. Another of my colleague struggle with depression which affects their
ability to work and is always in quarrels with the leadership for underperformance. This disorder
