EMS Chapter 1 Key Terms

EMS System - Answer Emergency Medical Services System Advanced Emergency Medical Technician (AEMT) - Answer Provides both basic and limited advanced emergency medical care and transportation to patients in the pre-hospital environment. Same as EMT but gets to use advanced airway devices, monitoring BG levels, initiation of IV and IO infusions, and administration of a select number of medications. Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) - Answer Protects individuals who have a documented disability from being denied initial or continued employment based on their disability. Emergency Medical Responder (EMR) - Answer First responder level. Provides immediate lifesaving care to patients who have accessed the EMS system and are waiting response from higher level EMS. Uses basic airway, ventilation, and oxygen therapy devices; takes vital signs; and provides stabilization of spine and suspected extremity injuries.
