(2) 1.2 Scan through the text in Question 3 and list the women leaders cited as examples. (3) 1.3 Skim-read the text in Question 3 and in five lines, discuss what the main argument of the text is. (5) 1.4 Using topical mapping skills, summarise the text in Question 3. (8) 1.5 Provide a suitable heading for the text in Question 3. (2) QUESTION 2: TIME MANAGEMENT [10] You have already received the assessment plan and study material for all your modules. Create a time management plan using a calendar to plan for all your assessments and how you will work through all your study material. (10) Question 3: READING EFFECTIVELY (CATEGORISING PARAGRAPHS) [20] Read section 1.3.3 in your study guide on Classifying paragraphs according to type. Use the skills learnt from the study guide to classify the paragraphs below according to Samone’s (1991) features. Identify each kind of paragraph and substantiate your choice by citing some information from the paragraph. (20) QUESTION 3: ESSAY [50] The inclusion of Indigenous knowledge in the curriculum is one way that the South African curriculum can be Africanised/decolonized. Read the paragraph below and then discuss to which extent you agree or disagree with the notion of the Africanisation of the curriculum in South African universities. Use the following guidelines to structure your essay: • State your argument in the introduction, in other words to what degree do you agree or disagree that the Africanisation of education in South Africa will yield positive results; • In the body, substantiate your argument with facts from research; • Conclude your essay by summarizing the main point and showing how your argument ties with the evidence found through research. Please note: Information taken from research must be referenced, if not referenced it will constitute to plagiarism and you will be penalised for it. 1 mark will be deducted for every unreferenced source. “Student population in most African universities is predominantly black Africans. Ironically, these universities’ curricula are still dominated by Western epistemologies and knowledge systems instead of allowing other knowledge systems, particularly indigenous ones, to co-exist with Western systems. African universities are thus faced with the challenge to Africanise or indigenise their curricula in order to better and relevantly service their students.” (Gumbo, M.T. (2016) A model for indigenising the university curriculum: A quest for educational relevance. EBSCO Publishing: 33-56)
