Applying anti-embolic stocking - Answer 1. review the order to determine need 2. WASH YO HANDS! ( ppe if needed) 3. explain procedure & provide privacy 4. Put pt in SUPINE position (lying flat on back) (if pt has been walking or sitting wait 15 mins w/ legs elevated in bed) 5. EXPOSE 1 LEG AT A TIME! , assess for skin breakdown/dryness 6. place hand inside stocking & turn inside out to the heel area 7. with the heel pocket down, ease stocking over foot and heel 8. using fingers and thumbs , carefully pull up stocking over ankle and calf toward knee (if stockings are knee length, they need to be 1-2 inches BELOW PATELLA.) 9. Remove PPE & WASH YO HANDS! Removing anti-embolic stockings - Answer Grasp top of stocking with the thumb and fingers. Smoothly pull stockings off INSIDE OUT to heel area. Remove PPE. WASH YO HANDS! Cast care - Answer If cast is LESS THAN 24 HRS old OR NOT FULLY DRY, handle with PALMS (NOT FINGERS)! Assess the condition of the cast, check for cracks/dents/presence of drainage. Perform neuromuscular assessments for: pain
