RBT Exam – Assessment Questions and Answers 2023 How do you define behavior in observable and measurable terms? Directly observable and measurable actions of physical functions. How do you define the environment in observable and measurable terms? Anything perceptible through the senses. What is a preference assessment? Determination of client's preferred items gained in order to increase child's motivation. How do you conduct a preference assessment via survey? Ask the child or caregivers about preferences, either verbally or visually (such as through PECS). What is a free operant observation? Preference assessment that involves observing and timing what items a child engages with how long a child engages with them. What is a contrived preference assessment? Provides brief exposure to each item, then observation to see which items are engaged with. What is a naturalistic preference assessment? Observed in a child's natural environment, engagement duration is recorded for each item the child engages with. What is a forced choice preference assessment? Laying out an array of items and asking child to pick. Creates hierarchy of reinforcers. What is a stimulus preference assessment? Gathering a pool of potential reinforcers and systematically identifying child's preferences Compare/contrast trial based, single, and paired preference assessments. Trial based lists items as high/medium/low preference based on amount of engagement. Single preference assessment gives client one item at a time, while paired gives two items at a time, until all the items are ranked in order. How do you conduct a preference assessment with replacement vs. without replacement? With replacement, multiple items are given to choose from- each item that was not chosen is then replaced. Without replacement, the chosen item is removed and the remaining items are rearranged. What is a reinforcer assessment, and why are multiple schedule and progressive ratio reinforcer assessments important? It measures the effectiveness of a reinforcer. Multiple schedule reinforcer assessments determine if the reinforcer is effective in both contingent and non-contingent settings (if yes, then not effective). A progressive ratio reinforcer assessment determines whether the reinforcer is still effective when demand/requirement increases. How would you assist with a behavioral and environmental assessment? Conduct and provide observations of a child in his or her natural environment; How would you assist with a preference assessment? Assist with conducting stimulus preference or reinforcer assessments. How would you assist with individualized assessments? Curriculum based, developmental and/or social skills assessments conducted in interview format. How would you assist with functional assessments? Determine cause and effect relationship between environment and behavior, then altering either the antecedent or consequence or teaching a replacement behavior. Assist during experimental analysis, collect data during descriptive assessments, or provide information regarding the client. How would you assist with probing? Asking a client to perform a task we are unsure they can perform without assistance. Probe new programs to confirm data collected during earlier assessments. How would you assist with functional (experimental) analysis? Arrange antecedents and consequences so that their separate affect on a problem behavior can be observed and the function of the behavior can be determined. How would you assist with a descriptive assessment? Directly observe the behavior under naturally occurring conditions.
