- Around 10,000 years ago britain became separated by the channel
- First farmers arrived 6000 years ago from South East Europe
- They built Stonehenge (giant rocks for ceremonies) in Wiltshire and Skara Brae (prehistoric village) on
Orkney
The Bronze Age
- Started 4000 years ago
- People lived in round houses and buried their dead in round barrows
The Iron Age
- People minted the first coins in Britain and inscribed the names of Iron Age Kings on them
- They lived in houses that they grouped in Hill Forts such as Maiden Castle
- The Language spoken is Celtic
THE ROMANS
- In 55 BC julius cesar leads the first roman invasion to Britain which is unsuccessful
- In AD 43 Emperor Caludius leads a successful invasion during which Boudicca, a
native british tribal leader, tried to resist
- Emperor Hadrian built a wall (Hadrian Wall) to keep out the Picts who are ancestors of
the Scottish people. The wall had 2 forts named Housesteds and Vindolanda
- The Romans built roads, public buildings, created law and introduced plants and animals
- Romans left in AD 410 after 400 years
