Chapter 1 (phtls: past, present, future) Question and answer rated A+ 2023The 4 stages of development regarding management of the trauma patient. 1. Ancient period 2. The Larrey period, 3. The Farrington era 4. The modern era Ancient period Defined as all medical care acomplished in Egypt, Greece, and rome, by the israelites up to napelon. The larrey period (late 1700s to approximately 1950) Napoelon's chief military physician recognized the need for prompt prehospital care. He developed the basic theory of prehospital care including; "Fambulances, proper training of merical personnel, patient care and retreval, hemorrhage field control, provision of care en route, and frontline hospitals." Baron larrey commintment to ems made him the Father of ems. 1865 first private ambulances serves created and soon ems systems were developed. The Farrington Era (Approximately 1950's to 1970's) In the late 1960's The father of ems in the united states Dr. Farrington helped establish 3 intial documents. 1. Essential equipment list for ambulances of the american college of surgeons 2. Department of transportation 3. Emergenical medical technician basic trainging program. Taught the first prehospital training in 1957 to chicago fire. Modern Era of prehospital care (approximately 1970's-today) Modern era of prehospital care began with the dunlap and associates report to the DOT in 1968 defining the emt-ambulance training. Know known as the EMT-Basic/EMT. NREMT establisehd in 1970s with emergency care and transportation of the sick and injuried being the first textbook in 1971. GCS was developed during this time as well. Blue star of life was designed by the American Medical Association as the symbol for a "medic alert"- an indicationthat a patient had a medical condition noted by ems. This changed to become the symbol for ems systems. Modern era prehospital care (section 2 1980's) 1980s became apparent that trauma patients were different from cardiac patients. (Cardiac patients all or most tools like cpr, aed, and supportive medications were available to properly trained paramedics in thefield. Trauma needed replacement of blood and internal hemorrhage equipment which were not issued to paramedics. As such equipment changed to allow rapid assessment, packaging and transport were issued in 1980s mid. Advances have become even more so due to modern conflicts. Due to the committe on tactical combat casualty care, data and additional resources are implemitented into clinical guidelines to help medical personnel. As a result of the process the survival rate for those wounded in combat has increased to over 90%. Civilianworld is rapidly adopteing these changes for use in hospitals like using tourniqets as a primary intervention.
