Every country differs in culture as they have been there for centuries. The international market is
growing rapidly, with more and more multinational organisations entering new markets each day. In
this assignment I will evaluate how the difference in cultures affects the performance of McDonalds
in India and Canada.

India

Health

The health of people in India is funded and controlled by the Indian government and it is their
responsibility to protect and enhance the health and welfare of all the Indian people. The government
does this by providing some free treatments or helping to cut down the costs. India is one of the
largest country in terms of population and land. It has a total population of almost 1.357Bn and each
and every single person is equally important to the government. Some people in India are over
weighed and some people don’t even get to eat once a day. Therefore there are serious health issues in
India. Also India has many different religions that mainly include Muslims and Hinduism, Muslims
are however only allowed to eat Halal products including cow if sacrificed the right way but whereas
Hindu’s worship cows and that’s the reason why some people are vegetarians. Therefore it’s a great
challenge for any international business to operate in such circumstances.

McDonalds offers a wide menu which is healthy and nutritious with healthy drinks. McDonalds have
responded to these issues by labelling products clearly, for example they have labelled Halal products
so that Muslims know that they are allowed to eat this/these products. Also McDonalds should label
the calories and ingredients used in their products clearly so people who are in diet know how many
calories they are taking and others can know what they are eating exactly. This way people can refuse
to take meals that they are allergic to or what they are now allowed to eat.

McDonalds made a healthy menu for people who are sensitive with their health, McDonalds also offer
diet coke for people who have diabetes as a result people with diabetes can drink diet coke which is
not harmful for them.

Welfare

The Indian Government provides welfare and shelter for people in need. This is a great cost to the
government but in order to keep the public happy and healthy they must endure these expenses. The
welfare system in India is not as good as the ones in UK, Ireland or US as the country is a developing
one and therefore the number each year is rising. This is mainly because of the great population of
India that is about 1.35Bn. Many people in India are deprived of their basic needs but the government
cant provide for all, therefore the Indian government is introducing different schemes through which
the poor and the old can shop products at a cheaper price compared to other markets. This is done by
providing a card to these citizens, which is called the “rashan card” that entitles the deprived to access
these products.

McDonalds has responded to this very well as they recognised that the large number of Indians
population is deprived of basic needs and out of the rest most of them are middle class. Therefore
McDonalds has set competitive prices and other amazing deals for people who are less fortunate or
are middle class. Apart from providing fair deals at affordable price, McDonalds has made sure that
they create employment opportunities so that the unemployment rate could go down and people could
