This will form part of your research for Aim B2
To achieve the Merit you will need to
State and describe the different methods that are used to prevent the transmission
and spread of infectious diseases.
Give a named example of an infectious disease that is prevented by each of the
methods above
For each of the preventative methods (with a named example), assess the
effectiveness and relevance in preventing the disease
When describing the different preventative methods, include information on HOW
they stop the spread of disease. E.g. with vaccination programmes that can lead to
herd immunity
The section ‘assess the effectiveness/relevance of each of the methods’ - use the
search terms: effectiveness of [named protective method] in preventing the spread
of [infectious disease]
E.g. – the use of prophylaxis for preventing malaria requires you to describe and
evaluate the following points:
Effectiveness of the method (in relation to people remembering to take it)
Cost
Possible side effects
Advantages and disadvantages of this prevention method (choose a named
drug when researching)
If there is a vaccination programme in place and their importance (use this in
your evidence)
