MIS-605: Topic 1 DQ 1 In the Topic Material "Microsoft SQL Server vs. Oracle: The Same, But Different?" two relational database management systems were compared. Conduct research and evaluate the pros and cons of two additional systems. Some to consider could include MYSQL, PostgreSQL, IBM DB2. Include relevant links to related articles and content when appropriate. Microsoft Access and SQL Server are both developed by Microsoft. They are both relational database management systems and have a large presence in organizations across the globe. But there are some significant differences between the two. SQL Server has much higher specification than Access does. An example of this would the database size. Access databases can have a maximum size of two gigabytes while SQL Server databases can have a maximum size of 524,272 terabytes with a maximum data file size of sixteen terabytes. Also, Access has a limit of 255 concurrent users, whereas SQL Server allows a maximum of 32,767 simultaneous user connections. Lastly, SQL Server can have up to 2,147,483,647 objects per database, while Access can only have 32,768 objects. SQL Server is a good choice for medium to large businesses, it allows large number of people to use the database at once and fills many requirements when it comes to storing data. While SQL Server is a more powerful system than Access, there are several cases where it makes more sense to use Access instead of SQL Server. Access is a great option for a business where they only need a modest database. With Access, a relatively non-technical person can make a database is a short amount of time. This means that there is no need to hire an expert in SQL, which can be more cost effective for an individual or small business. Many business professionals already know how to use Access but have no idea how to use SQL Server. Even if they have no Access Skills, the learning barrier is much smaller than with SQL Server. Access is easier to install on a computer than SQL Server. It might already be on the computer if they have Microsoft Office suite. Access is a lot easier to use than SQL Server, which can make it more appealing to people who do not need a large database. IAN. (2016, June 5). Microsoft Access vs SQL Server. DATABASE.GUIDE.
