A.M1 - Assess the requirement of a child a one adult with different additional needs.

In this assignment, I will assess what Rebecca Brown and Ben Grace require owing to their special
requirements. In my own words, I will outline their needs that they require in order to avoid any
obstacles and have a beneficial impact on them. However, like with all advantages, there might be
disadvantages, and this includes their requirements having a detrimental effect on them.

Child Case study: Rebecca Brown

In this case study, it is stated instantly that Rebecca Brown is 8 years old and uses a wheelchair due
to a car accident when she was 5 years old. Rebecca requires one-on-one personal care due to her
physical disabilities; she suffered a fractured spine in the accident and has no movement below her
cervical spine. Rebecca Brown is living with disabilities. She is paraplegic, with no movement below
her cervical spine. This implies that Rebecca Brown was involved in a serious accident when she was
five years old, causing her to use a wheelchair. Rebecca Brown requires a wheelchair, which may
have both beneficial and negative consequences for her. This could have affected her mental health
since she may have low self-esteem and self-image as a result of being in a wheelchair. Rebecca may
lack self-confidence and may face rejection and animosity from peers and teachers who
misunderstand failures as a lack of motivation. Children with disabilities are less likely to begin
school, have lower rates of attendance, and have poorer rates of progression to higher levels of
schooling - Rebecca's school attendance may suffer as a result of her condition and the need for
regular appointments. A wheelchair is one of the most commonly used assistive equipment to boost
mobility and improve quality of life for those who have difficulty walking (e.g. a person with spinal
cord injuries resulting in quadriplegia or paraplegia, muscular dystrophy, etc.) This case specifically
pertains to Rebecca Brown, who suffered a shattered spine in the accident, resulting in no mobility
below her cervical spine and necessitating the use of a wheelchair. Because the injury happened
when she was five, and she is now eight, she has been using a wheelchair for three years to help
with her mobility. This indicates she understands how to use it properly, and her independence has
grown progressively over time. This has a positive influence on her since her wheelchair gives more
mobility and freedom for the user and their caregiver, allowing them to participate in daily activities
despite their limited mobility. Aside from making it easier for you to complete daily duties, a
negative may be that she is still fragile at the age of eight and requires people to care for her
properly, not leaving her neglected but staying about her for safety. In other words, she might need
help getting around. This pertains to independence since it would determine if Rebecca Brown is
gaining or losing independence as a result of how she requires assistance. She may be only eight
years old, so it will not have such a negative effect on her, but as she grows older, she will want to
achieve her independence and make her own choices/decisions rather than rely on others. Another
connection that may be made is that Rebecca Brown is only so young and is unable to acquire that
type of independence mindset; therefore, due to her physical impairments, she requires one-on-one
personal care. This is where the wheelchair user can get the assistance they want for personal care
activities such as clothing, washing, brushing their hair, and toileting, among others. They may prefer
to be independent at times, and in this situation, Rebecca Brown can receive the assistance she
requires from her personal caregiver. This would be accomplished by aiming for smooth, soft
movements, avoiding hurrying and rough handling, always seeking assistance if you have any
questions about her abilities, and asking the wheelchair how she or he wishes to be carried, lifted,
and so on.

The case study goes on to say that Rebecca attends a school for children with special needs, where
she has a specially designed teaching assistant as well as a caretaker who provides her with personal
