For this practical you will need:
● A potato;
● A ruler;
● A mass balance;
● A cork borer;
● A scalpel;
● Three testing tubes;
● 10 cm³ of distilled water;
● 10 cm³ of solution with 0.5 molar sugar;
● 10 cm³ of solution with 0.25 molar sugar;
● A paper towel;
M e t h o d
1. Peel the skin of the potato and use a cork borer to get
three cylinders with the same radius.
2. Trim your cylinders with the scalpel and try to get all
three of them to be 3 cm in length.
3. Measure the mass and length of each cylinder using the
mass balance and the ruler and record your values.
4. Put each of your cylinders in testing tubes and add
distilled water to the first tube, 0.25 molar sugar solution
to the second tube and the 0.5 molar sugar solution to
the third tube.
