Wanneer hebben deze landen de slavernij afgeschaft?

Dit is dus de afschaffing op nationaal niveau. In de eerste les hebben we ook al gezien
dat er initiatieven zijn genomen op bi- en multilateraal niveau. Het ging hierbij vooral
om invloed van het VK, maar ook de conferentie van Brussel (1890) was hierbij
belangrijk.

, MODERNE SLAVERNIJ

De slavernij zoals die vroeger bestond is dus afgeschaft in zeer veel landen. Toch is er
vandaag nog steeds sprake van moderne slavernij.

Dit is de visie van de Internationale Arbeidsorganisatie zoals die naar boven kwam in
een rapport van de IAO. Volgens hen kan moderne slavernij worden opgedeeld in 2
grote takken:

- Gedwongen arbeid
- Gedwongen huwelijk

Er bestaat dus geen juridische definitie van “moderne slavernij” op zichzelf.
