Introduction:

The issue onto which the Bio-Psycho-Social Assessment is done is the issue of Oliver’s

bicycle. A short but a comprehensive story portraying one of the most important issue of the

current society. The never ending need of parents of the current era of making the children do

whatever they like instead of what are the likes and dislikes of their children. This is what

beautifully portrayed in the short story of a three year old child Oliver whose strong obsession

toward the pink color is what makes his father a bit worried and he tries his best to make his

child, Oliver concentrate on colors other than pink. It seems that his obsessions was unbreakable

although his father tried his best but failed. All in all his father realizes the fact that there is no

harm in being different from the normal. It’s not necessary that one should follow the social

norms being set by the fake society because of which a person losses his originality. He came to

realize this act when he saw Oliver’s friend who had a blue bike crying and asking his mother to

have a bike just like Oliver.

Presenting issue:

The issue that was summed up in the case study of Oliver’s pink bicycle is the lack of

understanding of parents that their children can have a different approach toward life which can

differ from the approach used by them or even their forefathers. It is a serious problem because

nowadays parents are very strict in terms of making their children follow what they want and

should not have their own independent say or thinking in any of their decisions. Oliver’s

grandfather had the same issue of not understanding the differences in the mind set with Oliver’s

father and even Oliver’s father had the same issue with Oliver. Although he supported him long

enough but still try to impose his wish over his son’s wish of having a pink bicycle.



Demographic information:

Oliver was an infant with an age of 3 and a half years while his brother Owen is a new

born eight months old.

The current living situation of Oliver’s family is quite good a small and a complete
