P3- describe how two businesses are organised
P4- explain how their style of organisation helps them to fulfil their purposes
In this assignment I will be describing how the two business Haven High
Academy and Fold Hills Foods are organised and explain how their style of
organisation helps them to fulfil their purposes. I will outline what
organisational structure they use and how they function as a business.
Every business has an organisational structure. The structure shows how the
business is arranged and works. The purpose of the organisational structure is
to define the workforce roles of employees and their job titles, the path
through which decisions are made, who is responsible for what activities, the
relationship between colleagues in a business, how the staff communicate with
each other and how information is passed. Different types of businesses have
different objectives and the way in how decisions are made at the business,
therefore they will have different structures. Smaller businesses normally go
for simple structures however larger businesses are usually divided into
departments with different managers in each section, Fold Hill Foods and
Haven Academy are examples of this.
Hierarchical
The hierarchical structure is the most common for medium sized and large
businesses. Employees are ranked at various levels within the organisation and
each level is one above each other. Employees are given roles and procedures.
At each stage in the structure, one person has a number of workers directly
under them. A tall hierarchal structure has many different levels where as a flat
one will only have a few. An example of businesses who use this structure is
Apple, hospitals and schools. It tends to be more public sector businesses who
use the hierarchical structure.
