I drank it from my mother’s breast. Soon as I got some sense, I heard language N │uu language. I heard N │uu from my pa and my mom And my grand and my grandpa. N │uu we spoke at home. Afrikaans I learned to speak from those farmers. That language, we had a hard time of it with the white people and that language. But N │uu was the language of the heart. When I heard N │uu, many people spoke it. But they all died off into time, and so we weren’t allowed to talk N I uu. We had to speak Afrikaans. 14 That is why N │uu has died out. Personally, I feel heartsore and sad about it, And so I teach it to people So N │uu can stay a while longer. It’s the language of my parents and great-grandparents. (By Ouma Geelmeid.
