Question 1:
 4 marks; 5 minutes.
 Shade the 4 correct boxes in.
o Use a pencil first.
o Label the section of the source that you will need to refer to.
o The points will all be in chronological order.


Question 2:
 2 paragraphs; 8 marks; 10 minutes.
 Write a summary of what you understand about a certain topic / theme in the two sources.
 How to answer:
1. Go through the source and find 3 quotations.
2. Summarise them in your point.
 Use PEIEI[EI] structure:
 Point
 Evidence 1, inference for that piece of evidence.
 Evidence 2, inference for that piece of evidence.
 [Evidence 3, inference for that piece of evidence.]
3. Write a connecting sentence / phrase.
4. Do the same for the second source




Question 3:
 2 -3 paragraphs; 12 marks; 13 minutes.
 How the writer uses language to describe a certain theme / topic.
o Language devices.
o Words / phrases.
o Sentence forms.
 How to answer:
o Use the PRETZEL structure:
 P = Point => Answer the question [key words].
 R = Reference => Quote from the text.
 E = Explanation => Explain the quote.
 T = Technique => Mention a technique.
 Z = Zoom = Pick a word or phrase and zoom into it.
 E = Explain => Explain the effect on us.
 L = Link => Link back to the question.
o Try to use tentative language and discourse markers such as ‘however’ in your
development.
