NR361 WEEK 4 ASSIGNMENT: Course Project Milestone 1 Latest Updated. Ann is a 34-year-old female who is a mother of two, wife, and a Registered Nurse. Ann has decided to go back to school for her bachelor’s degree, she currently works 12 hours - full-time nights and takes care of her children, husband and home, while attending school full time. Ann presents to her physician due to always fatigue and increases weight gain; Ann has noticed as she has gotten older, she is tired most days and has gained 40+ pounds. Her family history has heart and diabetes problems. Ann estimates that she receives 3- 4 hours of sleep during the day and has a decreased level of energy throughout the night. Ann drinks coffee all day and night to help her stay awake to complete homework assignments. Ann’s typical day is she gets home from work around 7:30 after getting kids off to school, falls asleep around 8:30 am and sleeps till around noon gets up to do homework, does a load or two of laundry and starts to cook dinner for her family around 4:30 pm, then gets ready for work around 5:45 pm. Ann has difficulty falling asleep, and her mind won't shut off, she states she feels as if her mind is flipping through channels, she says she’s afraid that she might forget something important. Ann realizes she is exhausted and has noticed a weight gain, despite trying to eat what she believes to be healthy choices. Ann’s lifestyle is hectic and extremely stressful, she states that she needs help with reducing the stress in her life and eating healthy to improve her overall health and fears that if she does not learn how to manage her stress effectively and make better choices, she will fall in to say situation as both her patents HTN, Heart failure and Diabetes, Both of her parents passed away young, mother at age 73 and father at age 75. Ann recently had a checkup with her doctor, and her lab values showed increase fatigue, at risk for heart disease and pre-diabetic. Ann wishes to fix her level of stress and weight as naturally as possible before intervening with medications. Ann states that she has never experienced trouble sleeping or increased weight gain in the past. Education: Describe in detail content Ann needs to be educated, and planning on reducing and limiting stress in her life, ways to relax and eating and making healthy choices. I plan to teach Ann how to reduce stress with relaxation and meditation properly, NR361 Course Project Milestone 1 T 09/19 JMJ 1 Chamberlain College of Nursing NR361 planned for teaching this patient in the scenario. 40 points also plan to teach Ann how to correctly choose food that will encourage healthy weight loss and increase energy levels while incorporating exercise to reduce stress in Ann’s life. According to Mayo Clinic (2017), unchecked stress can lead to multiple health problems such as high blood pressure, obesity, and diabetes (Mayoclinic,2017) and the importance of stress management. Stress Management Assistance: Ann will be shown how to understand the health risk of chronic stress, how to manage stress and how to respond positively to stress effectively. Relaxation Assistance: Ann will be informed on ways to incorporate different forms of relaxation techniques into her daily routine. Meditation, guided imagery, deep breathing, massage therapy, and listening to calming music are all excellent ways to induce relaxation and reduce stress. Dietary Assistance: Ann with be taught what food will aid in stress reduction and healthier lifestyle, that combining foods such as chamomile teas can decrease stress and anxiety by increasing our feel-good hormones like dopamine and serotonin, scant amount of dark chocolate 60%, oranges, grapefruit and strawberries helps lower cortisol which is the stress hormone, integrating banana during stressful times will help with lowering stress levels, omega three decrease stress and anxiety and nuts like pistachios are linked to minimizing stress. The most important food to incorporate to decrease stress in one's life is leafy greens such as spinach or kale, which also aide in the decrease levels of cortisol; therefore, stress level decline. Proper diet benefits overall health both mental and physical. Exercise Assistance: Ann will be presented with ways to include low impact exercise to aid in stress reduction, such as a quick walk around the block or yoga which can show ann that with proper stretching it will help reduce stress, that can decrease blood pressure and increase mental clarity due to combining stretching and deep breathing. Ann will be wellinformed that increasing physical activity daily with encourage stress reduction and assist with proper stress management. According to the American Heart Association (2020), 150 minutes of moderate physical activity is recommend weekly to decrease stress and improve overall health(AHA,2020). Caffeine reduction Assistance: Ann will also be shown that limiting caffeine and alcohol consumption with an aide in stress reduction, and increasing water consumption, mild dehydration can increase cortisol levels. Consuming water helps flush out cortisol levels within your body to assist with stress reduction and help with stress management.
