The field of environmental ethics concerns human beings’ ethical relationship with the natural

technological and economical expansion
○ Two books that aided in the creation of env ethics were: rachel carson's silent
spring and paul ehrlich's population bomb
● what obligations do we have concerning the natural environment?
● Anthropocene: human-centered technically all ethics are human centered since we are
the only creates that are able to understand it?
● For Peter Singer, if an entity possesses the relevant type of consciousness, then that
entity should be given equal consideration when we formulate our moral obligations.
● For Regan, all entities who are “subjects-of-a-life” possess “inherent value”. This means
that such entities have a value of their own, irrespective of their good for other beings or
their contribution to some ultimate ethical norm.
