BTEC Health and Social Care Level 3
Unit 8 – Promoting Public Health Aim C/D
P5.P6.P7.P8.M4.D2.D3.D4.
Target education involves specialists, certified and experienced educators working
with schools to support children and adolescents whether it comes to learning
development, social, emotional, or mental health. Change4life, which educates
schools about obesity and its effects on children and adults, is one example of how
targeted education has attempted to teach people about healthy lifestyles and the
consequences of not maintaining one. It is claimed that Change4life also makes use
of resources to pinpoint the negative effects of leading a sedentary lifestyle. For
instance, Change4life pinpoints the negative effects of gaining weight as a result of a
sedentary lifestyle. It claims that obesity is a significant risk factor for a number of
chronic and life threatening illnesses, such as type 2 diabetes, heart disease,
strokes, and cancer.
It is easily justified that the change4life campaign’s targeted education for increasing
public health and wellbeing is effective. We can observe, for instance, that families
are still utilising the change4life campaign. According to reports, change4life
surpassed every one of its goals for the first year, including 99% of the targeted
families were reached by the campaign. ‘413,466 families joined Change4Life in
the first 12 months.’ Taken from

17/12/2022. As a result of change4life’s efforts to raise parents’ awareness and
empower them to make positive changes in their child’s life, childhood obesity has
also been maintained to an absolute minimum. This has prevented the negative
effects of obesity and an unhealthy lifestyle on children. Furthermore, it is justifiable
that change4life is making an effort to spread knowledge about the disorders that
can come from obesity. For instance, they are attempting to prevent obesity through
raising knowledge of the repercussions, which will result in a decrease in the number
of cases of disease that are brought on by obesity. For instance, obesity is serious
since it is linked to worsening mental health outcomes and a lower of quality of life.
Gathering data and information about individual’s lifestyle and dietary habits across
the country is one of Change4life’s responsibilities; this process is often referred to
as intelligence gathering. This is due to the fact that they must look at patterns of
health and wellbeing in order to identify obesity trends that may be harming a variety
of people’s health and wellbeing across the UK. They do this in an effort improve
public health and to research the most effective strategies for combating obesity
across the nation. Change4life accomplishes this by investigating and analysing the
information that is submitted into the app that they have created, as well as the types
of information that were entered and when for the families who signed up. Because it
will lower the rates of obesity, this enables academics in public health policy to learn
more about how to implement better health promotion across the nation.
The Change4life campaign was launched to gather information, statistics, and data
on the attitudes and behaviours of various people within families across the nation
regarding their physical activity and diet so that Public Health England could
examine what patterns within their lifestyle would lead to a pattern of obesity. The
NHS and PHE have utilised this information in local and national campaigns that
they have launched. Additionally, because the UK is a varied nation with people from
