3. a) Discriminative listening - This is the way that you can differentiated
between sounds that you hear, you can quickly tell when you hear sounds
that you understand that, that is your mother tongue or vice versa when you
don’t understand when someone is speaking.
b) Comprehension listening - This is the knowledge that you need to have
about a language in order to be able to speak it, meaning you need to
understand the rules and vocabulary of the language.

i. Skimming - This type of reading is not in depth reading this is a great skill to
have when you want to rapidly read through a text to get quick answers and
to get a general idea of what this text is all about, you can also use it to
review yourself with the information of the text after reading.
ii. Summarising - This is used to explain the main ideas of a text, summarising
is done by using your own word to shorten the important information that
was given in the text in a way that you will understand it, this reading
strategy is great for when you need to retain knowledge of the text.
iii. Inferencing - This strategy keeps your mind alive this is where you need to
interpret the text because all events are not stated by the author, that leaves
some space for imagination and interpretation based on the main idea of
the text.
b) Skimming - When you need quick information about a subject.
Summarising - When you want to revise your work to make sure you
understand the topic.
Interencing - To help you get comprehension knowlegde about topics that
aren’t discussed completely.
5. a) - Hedge: These are phrases that are used to show emotion or opinion but in
a softened way.
- Elision: This is when you combine words to create meaningful words, but
that are actually non-words.
- Adjacency pairs: These are statements that are used in two ways these
statements always follows after one another.
- Backchannels: This shows attention or understanding using minimal
responses.
- Deixis: These are words that can’t be understood without context
