Explanation of the title:
Pride = trots, prejudice = vooroordeel. The book is mainly about pride and prejudice
about people.

Biographical information of the writer:
Jane Austen was born December 16th 1775 and died July 18th 1817. She was born
and raised in the UK. In her life she wrote a total of 6 big novels. She was a very shy
girl so her dramatic fictions were really the opposite of who she was in real life. She
always wrote when she was a little girl and her work got published after a lot of
people saw it.

Themes:
Love and reputation.
With love it is about the relationship between Darcy and Elizabeth. With reputation it
is about the reputation of a woman who is expected to get married.

Setting:
The story takes place in the 19th century. The story takes place in England, in
Brighton, Hertfordshire and Lambton.

Description of main characters:
- Elizabeth Bennet
Elizabeth is a 20 year old girl who is lovely and clever. The book is about her love life
and opinions about everything.
- Fitzwilliam Darcy
Darcy is a very pretty man, people consider him as pride because of his family name
which is very rich and wealthy. He is a bit shy.
- Jane Bennet
Jane is the oldest of the 5 daughters and also the prettiest of the family. She has a
soft caracter and is a bit naïve.
- Lydia Bennet
Lydia is the youngest in the family and is also very naïve. She doesn't listen to her
sisters and her ways of showing emotion aren’t that good so she hurts a lot of people
- Charles Bingley
Charles is an easy figure and likes everyone. He is very wealthy, rich and pretty but
he is also very insecure. He does everything that his friend Darcy says.
- Sir Whickham
Whickham is the bad guy in the story. His father worked for Darcy's father.
Whickham met the 15 year old Miss Darcy and made her fall in love with him

Which character can you identify with? Explain your answer
I can’t really identify with any of the characters because they don’t really fit in my
world and also we’re living in a whole different world and time now. They’re all very
rich and I’m definitely not.

Summary of the plot:
The book is about the Bennet family, they have 5 children. In the summer Elizabeth
goes to a vacation house for a few days. She meets the aunt of Darcy and Darcy but
she doesn’t like him. Darcy proposed to her and she was surprised but she declined.
