DHCPv6 - ANSWER-The IPv6 version of DHCP. DHCPv6 ADVERTISE unicast message - ANSWER-A DHCPv6 message sent by a DHCPv6 server to inform the DHCPv6 client that the server is available for DHCPv6 service. It is generated in response to a DHCPv6 SOLICIT message. DHCPv6 client - ANSWER-A DHCPv6 client requests DHCPv6 services from a DHCPv6 server, which in turn responds with network configuration information for the DHCP client. DHCPv6 INFORMATION-REQUEST message - ANSWER-A DHCPv6 message sent by a stateless client to the DHCPv6 server requesting only configuration parameters, such as DNS server address. The client generates its own IPv6 address using the prefix from the RA message and a self-generated Interface ID. DHCPv6 relay agent - ANSWER-Allows relaying DHCP messages between a DHCPv6 client and a DHCPv6 server located on a different network. DHCPv6 REPLY unicast message - ANSWER-The DHCPv6 message unicast message sent by the DHCPv6 server to the client. The DHCPv6 message contains the information requested in the DHCPv6 REQUEST or DHCPv6 INFORMATION-REQUEST message. DHCPv6 REQUEST message - ANSWER-A DHCPv6 message sent by a stateful client to the DHCPv6 server to obtain an IPv6 address and all other configuration parameters from the server. DHCPv6 server - ANSWER-A device that can be a dedicated server configured to provide client IPv6 addressing or a Cisco router configured to provide DHCPv6 services without the need for a dedicated server. DHCPv6 SOLICIT message - ANSWER-A DHCPv6 message sent by the DHCPv6 client to the reserved IPv6 multicast all-DHCPv6-servers address FF02::1:2. This multicast address has link-local scope, which means routers do not forward the messages to other networks. Duplicate Address Detection (DAD) - ANSWER-A process used by IPv6 devices using an ICMPv6 Neighbor Solicitation message to verify whether any other device has the same IPv6 address. Extended Unique Identifier method (EUI-64) - ANSWER-An IPv6 process that uses a client's 48-bit Ethernet MAC address and inserts another 16 bits in the middle of the 48-bit MAC address to create a 64-bit Interface ID for an IPv6 global unicast address. global unicast addresses (GUA) - ANSWER-Routable IPv6 addresses in the IPv6 Internet similar to a public IPv4 address. ICMPv6 Neighbor Advertisement (NA) message - ANSWER-ICMPv6 message used by an interface to announce its presence on the local link. NA is used in the IPv6 Neighbor Discovery (ND) feature. ICMPv6 Neighbor Solicitation (NS) message - ANSWER-ICMPv6 message used to discover other IPv6 hosts on the local link. NS is used in the IPv6 Neighbor Discovery (ND) feature. ICMPv6 Router Advertisement (RA) message - ANSWER-ICMPv6 messages sent by routers to provide addressing information to hosts using SLAAC. A message type used by an IPv6 router to provide IPv6 addressing information to clients. The router sends the message using the IPv6 all-nodes multicast address of FF02::1. ICMPv6 Router Solicitation (RS) message - ANSWER-ICMPv6 messages sent by devices to request an ICMPv6 Router Advertisement message. A message type used by an IPv6 client that sends a multicast to address FF02::2 (all-routers) to obtain an IPv6 address using SLAAC, which does not require the services of a DHCPv6 router. interface ID - ANSWER-Host portion of an IPv6 global unicast address. link-local addresses (LLAs) - ANSWER-Locally unique IPv6 addresses that are used to communicate with other IPv6-enabled devices on the same link and only on that link (subnet). Link-local addresses cannot be routed beyond the local network and are commonly used by IPv6 routing protocols. Managed Address Configuration flag (M flag) - ANSWER-Flag used in DHCPv6 to indicate whether to use stateful DHCPv6. For stateful DHCP, it sets the flag to 1. Other Configuration flag (O flag) - ANSWER-Flag used in DHCPv6 to indicate to use stateless DHCPv6. The O flag value of 1 is used to inform the client that additional configuration information is available from a stateless DHCPv6 server. solicited-node multicast address - ANSWER-This is an IPv6 multicast address associated with an IPv6 unicast address that is mapped to a special Ethernet multicast address. stateful DHCPv6 - ANSWER-Similar to DHCP for IPv4, provides IPv6 address, prefix length, and other information, such as DNS server and domain name. Does not provide a default gateway address.
