General considerations
The hand is frequently exposed to trauma and infections because of his role in human
activity.
-Its complex structure explains the variety of forms of infections with this location and
simultaneously explains the severity of sequelae that may appear later, with limitation of
motor and sensory functions.
Classification Depending on the affected area:
I. panaritia: acute infections of the fingers
II. acute infections of the hand
Classification of panaritiais done by topography and depth:
superficial panaritia(develop within the skin)
1
, - erythematous panaritium (reticular lymphangitis / cellulitis)
- pustular panaritium
- finger furuncle
- Paronychia(periungual / subungual)
subcutaneous panaritia(develop within the subcutaneous tissue)
- Pulp abscess (Felon)(develops within distal phalanx)
- middle phalanx abscess
- proximal phalanx abscess
deep panaritia(affecting tendons, bones, joints)
- pyogenic flexor tenosynovitis
- osteitis / osteomyelitis
- septic arthritis
Hand infectionsare classified by the same criteria:
superficial infections
- reticular lymphangitis / cellulitis
- superficial palmar phlegmon / abscess
- hand furuncle
deep space infections
- -Thenar space infection
- -Hypothenar space infection
- Midpalmar space infection
- Interdigital web space infection
- Dorsal subaponeurotic space infection
- Digital-palmar-carpal pyogenic flexor tenosynovitis (fingers1 and 5)
