Summary Dental Hygiene Local Anesthesia Study Boards (Questions from entire LA course to help study for boards_ Spring 22-23.)Interprofessional collaboration is an effort to combine medical professionals from different disciplines together to increase team work, communication, share knowledge, and build relationships to assess the health care needs of patients.1 This collaborative approach can benefit patients by directing them to a professional that can meet their needs, which improves patient outcomes.2 In order to make this impact on interprofessional collaboration in healthcare, proper training should be introduced to students in health professional programs. Interprofessional Education (IPE) is defined as two or more students from different professions coming together, learning from each other, and collaborating to improve health outcomes.3 In 2009, the Interprofessional Education Collaborative (IPEC) was formed, represented by six national associations, including dentistry, nursing, medicine, osteopathic medicine, pharmacy, and public health. The goal of IPEC was to develop and improve interprofessional collaboration curricula in colleges of health professions. Core competencies were established to serve as a guide to move beyond education specific to one’s own profession and serves to aid in communication between the professions. The competencies were originally published in 2001 and then reaffirmed in 2016. The most recent update in 2016 has expanded these core competencies towards clinical care by developing an outline for clinicians, public health practitioners, and other professionals to work together to improve and advance
