UNIT 4 ASSIGNMENT 2- EVENT
SUCCESS FACTORS
By Rayyan Mehmood

, Introduction

Throughout this assignment I will be looking at success factors of selected events. I
will use key skills to analyse events. To be able to understand how events are
successful it is important for an event’s organiser to assess events that have already
taken place. Three chosen successful events that I have taken time to analyse are the
PS4 launch, champions league finals and an awards evening. Success factors are
those which contributed to the event achieving its goal and objectives. They include
the number of attendees, Objectives e.g. amount raised, sales enquiries, fun etc,
Safety, Media attention, Reviews, External factors e.g. weather, Smooth running e.g.
on time

Event success factors
There are many different types of events that take place. These events all have
different purposes to try and achieve an objective. The three main types of events
are:

Business events- These are formal occasions to help promote a certain product or
business idea in hope to gain something. These can include, conferences, exhibitions,
awards evening and many more.

Sports event- These are events where the after competing in some sort of sports
competition your normally rewarded with a prize, such as medals or trophies.
Example of sporting events are as following, The Olympic games, the commonwealth
games, sports matches and many more.
Recreation events- Those are created for the purpose of fun and celebration. They
normally consist of a guest list which allows only specific people to attend. They are
aimed at specific people, so the event is occasionally held in venues. For example,
weddings, proms, birthdays and many more.

Why do events take place?
Events take place to raise money for charity, awareness of some cause,
entertainment or fun and just and just formal celebration.
For example, the ps4 launch took place because it was a business, promotional
event. Sony decided to launch the event on a business purpose. The purpose of
launching the event was to show the people attending, and the rest of the world, the
new product that they had produced. In order to sell their product, they had to pitch

, the product to a high standard so that customers would be prepared to purchase the
product. The main objective of the launch was to give fans more information and
specific details on the launch. By launching the event it gained publicity which leads
to more people becoming interested with the product and its features. They also had
an advantage in term of competition, which is Microsoft who make the Xbox, as they
released their product first so people can get hooked onto Sony rather than
Microsoft. Evidence is as following:

Another example is the Children in
Need’s event. This national event was specifically to raise awareness of the children
suffering across the UK with disabilities and severe illnesses. The event is hosted in
an arena but is also broadcasted on national television for many too watch. Their ob-
jectives/aims are to raise a large amount of money for it to be then distributed
across the kids that are in need. Many celebrities also participate in the event and
donate large sums of money to also encourage other people to donate towards the
charitable event. A record breaking one billion pounds has been raised since the year
1980. The biggest donation was also made recently which was fifty point six million
pounds This shows how successful the event is and how it impacts the children that
are in need. Evidence is as following:

The last example of an event that has
already taken place is the champion
league finals. This type of event is hosted as entertainment. People have access to
either watch the game at home or they can watch it live on at a stadium. The goals
