- Role projection (projection of who we are)
- Visible aspect of one’s character
- What other people see in us/what we see in ourselves
Traits
- Contribute to individual differences in behavior, consistency of
behavior over time, and stability of behavior across situations
- May be unique or common to some groups or shared by the entire
species but their pattern is different from everyone
- Every individual may have different patterns of it
- Are seen as more coming from our genes (biological in
nature/inherent)
- Consistent behavior
Characteristics
- Unique qualities of an individual that include such attributes as
temperament, physique, and intelligence
- Compared to trait, characteristic is more changing
- More noticeable than traits
- Can be noticed when we know the person. However, characteristics
can be seen physically such as the looks of the person, her voice, etc.
- We can give an immediate description of the persons’ characteristics
Behavior
- Any action or response to internal or external stimuli
- How we see the traits and characteristics
- Really shows one’s personality
- Indicator of traits and characteristics
- Most observable
Personality definition
