THE INTEGRATED PRACTITIONER

• Doing what you love, but you must be the best at it.
• Do to the best of our ability – ensuring that it brings us happiness.

,The Three Dimensions of the Integrated
Practitioner

Intra-personal

Knowledge
For the pot to be sturdy, and cook well or evenly, all three legs must be equal and
If it only had two legs, it would not be of much use. Dimension

functional.

1. Knowledge
a. Making sure that whatever we do we have enough knowledge about
it.
b. We need to find out what the debates in the profession are.
c. Issues of stigma perhaps.

, d. Constantly reading and engaging with professionals.
e. Being aware what goes on in a field.
f. Knowledge guides us on how to help.
g. We need to know the situation
i. Not knowing will be highly dangerous, can cause chaos,
damages can arise.

2. Intra-personal dimension (the reflective practitioner –
“inside of yourself”)
h. Finding and assessing the following aspect of yourself:
i. Mental abilities
1. If a client needs a certain competency which I do not
have, I must ethically refer the client to a space where
they can get the best service they need.
ii. Emotional state
1. You need to assess your own emotional state and get
treatment.
2. Your actions can be interpreted by others e.g. tapping
your foot if you get nervous, this is a sign of
anxiousness, the client may not want to open up to you
or will feel like they are burdening you.
iii. Behavioural patterns
iv. Psychological and personality characteristics
1. The need for structure for example
v. Spiritual convictions and cultural framework
1. We cannot deny our beliefs we need to be aware of it.
2. We all have stereotypes; we need to find it. What makes
stereotypes problematic is when we pretend it is not
there and we don’t acknowledge how irrational some of
those stereotypes can be.
3. Religious or racial profiling.
4. Others may not share your convictions (this is not a
conversion exercise).
