1. Diabetes

Diabetes = suikerziekte, stofwisselingsziekte

Diabetes kan een hele reeks chronische complicaties veroorzaken. Het is één van de belangrijkste
oorzaken van hart- en vaatlijden, blindheid, nierinsufficiëntie en beenamputaties. Te wijten aan hoge
calorie-inname, gebrek aan beweging, overgewicht en veroudering van de bevolking.

Diabetes is een syndroom, het bestaat uit een aantal afwijkingen en verschijnselen, die wel bij elkaar
horen, maar een verschillende oorzaak kunnen hebben.

• Stofwisselingsziekte
• Normale stofwisseling: energie en brandstofverwerking
• Voedsel: glucose
• Verbranding of opslag (spier-, lever-, vetcellen)
• Bloedglucosewaarde mmol/l
• Opslag dankzij insuline (°pancreas)
• Bloedglucosewaarde tussen 4-8 mmol/l (72-144mg/dl)
