Introduction:

Water purification systems are extremely important in order for us to produce clean and

safe water to drink. Around the world, there are many unclean sources of water. An example of

this is a country in Africa called Eritrea. This country had little access to clean water. However,

economically larger countries such as Canada have water purifiers everywhere. In Eritrea, the

lack of household sanitation means their open water sources are often contaminated by human

and animal waste. If we don't purify the water we can obtain many different sicknesses. This is

one of the many reasons why purifying water is important for our health and well-being. As a

group, we wanted to make a water purifier that was easy and functional. To reach this goal we

experimented with the use of our resources (Youtube, science slideshows, etc.) to gather enough

intel to create a working, economically safe, and effortless water filtration machine.

Hypothesis:

Water filtration machines are used daily to give us clean, potable water. However, a

frequently asked question is: How does dirty water go from unclean, to potable? In class, we

learned about filters in these machines which break down all of the unnecessary substances in

water. After researching all of the stages required for water to become purified, our group knew

that we needed to take a step forward in order for us to be prepared to dissolve any possible

solutes that may be added during this challenge.

While working as a group, we found these ideas on the internet to be the most

interesting/unique:
