Unit 1 Task P3
The organisational structure

This section of my report will explore the organisation structures, aims and objectives of
Sainsbury’s and British Heart Foundation.

Sainsbury organisational structure:

Organizational structure is a way or method by which organizational activities are divided,
organized and coordinated. Sainsbury has a tall hierarchy as they operate in 70 countries on
a global scale with firms that accommodate a large amount of subordinate and high-ranking
staffs. A benefit of a flat structure is that it increases the employees’ level of responsibility in
the organization by removing excess layers of management that improves the coordination
and speed of communication between subordinate and high-ranking staffs. Fewer levels of
management encourage an easier decision-making process among employees, therefore
reducing risks.

Sainsbury hierarchy is governed by Simon Roberts who is the Chief Executive Officer that
operate retail, director responsible for stores, central operations and logistics. Kevin O’Byrne
is the Chief Financial Officer who leads finance and provide the business with valuable
expertise in pursuing its strategy. Jim Brown is the Chief Executive Officer of Sainsbury’s
Bank who is responsible for a number of senior international financial services roles like
digital transformation in banking.
