I thought that screaming along with songs about heartbreaks would make me feel better, but no, no
such thing has happened yet. Derek called. I was happy to see his name pop up on my screen, we
hadn’t spoken in a while. I hoped he would bring some good news, but from the sound of his shaking
voice, I knew that it wasn’t going to be nice.

I didn’t know the smile on my face could disappear this quickly. I felt my knees getting weak, my body
was shaking and the only thing I could do was cry. I couldn’t bring out any words, so I hung up the
phone, hoping I would never have to talk to him again. I cried for hours after I heard the news.

I was thinking how this could’ve happened. Was Derek not happy with me anymore? Did I not spend
enough time with Derek? Was I even a good girlfriend to Derek? All this overthinking made me cry
even more and that’s when I decided, there’s only one person to blame. It’s not Derek and it’s most
definitely not me. Phoebe is the one to blame and she won’t get away with it, I will smack this in her
face, right when she’s least expecting it.

Martin, my lawyer, is coming today and I’m scared of what he’s going to ask of me. Phoebe will be
there, alongside with my mom and I don’t want to disappoint them. Phoebe probably already hates
me, but I don’t want to disappoint my mom as well.

I showered and got dressed. Something I hadn’t done in days. I put on my Yale shirt. I was preparing
myself when the doorbell rang. Martin introduced himself and short after that, we started talking.

I told him everything. How I met Jared on vengeance is mine, how we bonded over lost parents and
loneliness, how I pretended to be Phoebe and how we had the plan to hurt Brandon.
Mom held me gingerly during the conversation, like she didn’t recognize me anymore. It was horrible
to see my mom’s face and her astonishment when I told Martin everything.

The remarkable thing was, that the copies of our chat history didn’t accord to my story. He showed
us some texts from after the date I told Jared I was out. It said ‘the more Bazaar the better right? lol’.
Phoebe and I looked at each other. We had one of those moments we used to have when we were
younger. No words were spoken, but we knew exactly what to do.
