Question 1
1(a). The purpose of the potential client interview is to obtain as much information in
respect to the situation presented by the client. Another purpose is to sell the
attorney’s services. In order to convince the client to retain the attorney, it is
necessary to gather as much information as possible about the issue presented by
the potential client and the confidently explain what can reasonably be done.
According to Marnewick C.G (2003),1client interviewing is one of the most important
skills required of a lawyer and is the practice of communicating with, and advising a
client on a legal matter. Client interviewing allows me to develop the skills needed
when conducting a legal interview, such as how to establish a relationship with the
client, how to identify the nature of the legal problem and then how to obtain the
relevant information from the client in order to reach a potential solution
(b) This simple acknowledgement of another person's presence in your vicinity
makes that person feel special. And you will leave an impression of being a kind,
courteous individual. Also exchanging pleasantries will ease the distress of the client.
During this stage the following should be done
• Meet the client at your reception.
• Introduce yourself.
• Give the client a comfortable seat.
• Engage in some small talk until you can steer the conversation to the purpose
of the interview
2(a) The Case pertains to the accident that occurred on the 2nd April 2022 between
Mrs. P Stone and Mr. Dave Dean. The accident occurred due to the negligence of
Mr. J Soap as he was travelling at high speed under the circumstances alleges Mrs.
Stone who was travelling with her husband and two children and they all sustained
personal injuries from the accident. The personal injuries on Mrs. P Stone and her
