The space race has become one of the most significant crossroads in the history of mankind, as this period aroused a sense of patriotism in the United States and the Soviet Union, expanded our understanding of space and served as an impetus for the rapid advancement of innovation. The Space Race was originally a problem between the Cold War, the US and the former Soviet Union, due to the predominance in space research that took place somewhere between 1955 and 1975 shortly after World War II, when rockets began to turn into "a different style of combat, when atomic bombs could spread rapidly around the world" (Smithsonian National Museum of Aviation and Cosmonautics). Missiles turned into a possible solution for long-range weapons, which triggered its initial advancement (Culhane, 2017).
