NR534: Healthcare Systems Management July 2021 ADVANCED COMMUNICATION IN LEADERSHIP SYSTEMS 2 Week 2: Advanced Communications in Leadership Systems Strong and effective communication are characteristics of a successful leader. According to Boissey et al. (2016), communication is the exchange of information, feelings, ideas and news among people. Personalities can play a role in how information is communicated; therefore, it is crucial for leaders to be self-aware and understand both personality and leadership styles. This paper will examine how I can apply my leadership style and personality traits in advanced communication situations. Additionally, this paper will include a discussion three scenarios I experienced in my career regarding negotiation, conflict, and interdepartmental collaboration. Leadership Style To get a better idea of what my leadership style is like, I turned to Blake and Mouton managerial questionnaire. Upon completion, it came to my attention that my leadership style is that of team leader. This leadership style is indicative of a leader who is communicative and encourages the staff and members of the team to form bonds in order to reach commonly shared goals. A team leader high task and high relationship. This also goes hand in hand with my transformational leadership approach. According to early research studies, personality traits have been linked to communication (Afriyie, 2020). In order to get to know myself as a person better, I took the typology questionnaire on the HumanMetrics link. This led me to understand that my personality is introvert-sensing-feeling-judging. These results indicate that I am methodical and hardworking, with a desire to serve others. Based off the findings from both questionnaires, I am a team leader who is methodical and hardworking.
