,Executive Summary
The purpose of this report is to document research conducted at The Hague University of
Applied Sciences on the topic of over-usage of electronic devices by children in elementary
school in The Hague, because of the writer's interest in this topic. Children’s upbringing is of
the utmost importance to society. The central question of this research was: “. Is it possible
to set up rules to prevent over-usage of electronic devices by children in elementary school
in The Hague?” In order to answer this question, different research methods were chosen.
Desk research and field research was done for example by interviewing and surveying. The
research showed the following: The normal limit is a maximum of two hours according to
experts. The chart shows that the percentage of the time on an electronic device and the
maximum time set by parents are equal. The effects of over usage could be isolation,
decreased motoric fitness, lack of sleep, problems with eyes and sight, internet addiction,
and mental consequences. The rules that could be implemented are for example boot camps
or a government set ban on over-using electronic devices but giving information is more
reasonable for western countries. We can conclude that it is not feasible to set up rules,
giving information suits the western culture better but further research needs to be done on
this subject for a proper solution.
