The most important scientific breakthrough of the past 300 years is Dengue Fever.
Introduction:
The mosquito is considered an important vector for human disease. The Aedes mosquito is responsible
for spreading dengue. It bites human beings almost all the time, but different mosquito species have
different feeding times (some feed at night, and some in the daytime). When an infected
female Aedes mosquito bites a human being, it transfers the virus into his body which causes dengue
fever. It is an infectious disease in warm and humid parts of the earth.
Dengue Mosquito:
The dengue virus multiplies in the body of the female Aedes mosquito. The Aedes mosquito is dark
brown with white spots and stripes on its body. The mosquito is responsible for the transmission of the
diseases like malaria and yellow fever. To save oneself from these diseases, it is necessary that various
preventive measures, including the destruction of the breeding sites, should be adopted.
Symptoms Of Dengue Fever:
The silent features of this disease are:
High fever is usually above 102o F.
Severe headache and pain behind the eyes.
Weakness and fatigue.
Pain in the muscles and joints which is also called Break Bone Fever.
Chill, nausea, or rash on the skin may also occur.
Gradually the white Blood Cells and platelets count decrease.
The majority of the patients recover after 5-7days.
Laboratory Test:
COMPLETE BLOOD COUNT (CBC):
The automated analyzer gives a profile of no. of different types of WBCs, RBCs, and platelets
per unit volume. Low WBCs and platelet count may indicate dengue.
