Title of Paper: “Gender Behavior in Investment Decision”



Abstract:
In India, almost 50% of population is female. Day by day their contribution in economic
development is increasing. Women are empowered with education and they are joining
workforce. Women Life expectancy is more than men, they earn less, save less and live old
age poorly. As women is not as good as men in investments. Even women with higher
education and experience is risk averse. The objective of this research paper is to examine
gender based investment decisions and how risk is associated with gender. We have taken
50 samples (25 working men and 25 women) from Ahmedabad city. Selecting criteria for
sample was income, who income was above Rs 20000, we have taken as sample. Survey
through structured questionnaire of close and open questions were conducted.

,INTRODUCTION
In today’s scenario there has been a major change in economic prosperity all over. Higher income
levels and booming stock markets have led to more and more numbers of high net worth investors.
This means the availability of huge investible surplus. The investors with higher risk appetite want to
experiment and try new and exotic products in the name of diversification. This has resulted in
emergence of new options within the same or fresh asset classes. There are more products available
within each asset class be it Equity, Mutual Fund, Gold, Real Estate.

From nation’s perspective, savings form an important part of the economy of a nation. With the
savings invested in various options available to the people, the money acts as the driver for growth
of the country.

The common perception of investors is to buy when the market supports in uptrend and not to
invest in the falling time. They wait for the stabilization in the market; so in this research, we would
like to draw a clear picture on the trends of traders and investors. Also investing pattern and their
behaviour depends upon the gender, income and many more factors which we would try to explore
in the study.




1.2 PROBLEM STATEMENT:

The statement of the problem under study is to understand the investment pattern of individual
investors who invest by themselves and also, how an investor behaves from a financial advisor’s
point of view. Thus, the main focus here is to make a behaviour analysis of investors in the city of
Ahmedabad towards various investment avenues.

, OBJECTIVES OF THE STUDY

 To study the gender behaviour in investment decision Ahmedabad city
 To find out why males can tolerate more risk than females.




SCOPE OF THE STUDY:

The research is limited to Ahmedabad city, and so the scope of the study is wide. By the study,
behaviour of the investors can be come upon.

This will be beneficial to companies in changing their future policies and strategies.

Also, this will help government in identifying the factors influencing the investment decisions is
crucial to ensure the right legislations and procedures needed to satisfy the investors’ desires and
provide support to achieve market efficiently.


RESEARCH DESIGN:

As the research includes understanding the pattern of investment done by individual investors
and also from the point of view of Financial Advisors, an Exploratory Research is conducted

For the purpose of such in-depth study on investment behaviour, Questionnaire is used as an
instrument for collecting information

To cover the population of Ahmedabad city, a sample size of 50 people including 10 Financial
Advisors and 40 individual investors are taken as representatives.
