The "oughts" of providing legal services are thus addressed by legal ethics in the narrow sense and an instance of this would be how a legal practitioner is compelled to behave1. 1.2 Characteristics of a profession are the following2: • Before being allowed to practice their chosen profession, professionals must have specialized intellectual knowledge and skills. This expertise, which is not readily available to the general public, grants the professional influence over the customer. Because the client has no choice but to trust the professional, the latter's honesty should be assured. • Professionals are expected to be dedicated to advancing society's fundamental good. The fundamental good in the legal profession is justice. • Professionals are expected to be dedicated to assisting the public in matters pertaining to their industry. • Professionals have some autonomy in carrying out their jobs. They exercise discretion in carrying out their responsibilities and do not simply obey their clients or other authorities. • Professionals should be willing to take personal responsibility for their conduct and retain public trust in their field. 1.3 The two types of legal codes that Jimmy is particularly concerned about are Practical and Theoretical concerns
