NURS 6053 Interprofessional Organizational and Systems Leadership
NURS 6053 Interprofessional Organizational and Systems Leadership NURS 6053 Interprofessional Organizational and Systems Leadership In my department, we have seen a lot of change in staffing and management in the last year. Our nurse manager retired and the assistant nurse manager took her position. This left the position of assistant nurse manager open. Several employees in the department applied for the position. Because we have such a close relationship as coworkers, our nurse manager decided to include the staff in helping to make the decision of who would get the new assistant nurse manager position. In this situation, she realized that having power gives one the potential to change the attitudes and behaviors of individual people and groups (Marquis & Huston, 2012). Her legitimate power was used to empower the staff. The staff was allowed to hold group interviews with all of the candidates where questions could be asked and the staff could then write down their own recommendations on which person seemed to be the best choice for the position. The staff recommendations were considered but they were not the deciding factor. It did help to narrow down the candidates to just three people. The final decision would still be made by the nurse manager.
