, QUESTION 1
Read the scenario below and answer the questions that follow.
1.1. Give the analyses of the two dominant systems you would wish to install in your
workshop. (4)
• Mechanical system: A mechanical system is a set of physical components
that convert an input motion and force into a desired output motion and force.
• Control system: control system manages, commands, directs, or regulates
the behavior of other devices or systems using control loops.
1.2. State with reasons the difference that exist between the systems in 1.1. (4)
Mechanical system Control system
Uses of hydraulic presses Uses electronic and pneumatic
Plain hyd presses and hyd-lever-
hydraulic-presses
1.3. Which system in 1.1 mostly applicable to the car breaks? (2)
Hydraulic system
1.4. Describe the process of fitting the braking systems in a car. (4)
• When you push the brake pedal it depresses a piston in the master
cylinder, forcing fluid along the pipe.
• The fluid travels to slave cylinders at each wheel and fills them, forcing
pistons out to apply the brakes.
• Fluid pressure distributes itself evenly around the system.
