Question 1

1.1.1) b
1.1.2) c
1.1.3) b
1.1.4) c
1.1.5) c

1.2.1) Microsystem:
• Overcrowded classrooms
• High incidence of alcohol abuse by parents

Chronosystem:
• Informal settlement has no running water or sanitation
• Language of teaching and learning is English and for most learners this
means they do not learn in their mother tongue

Macrosystem
• High unemployment rate of the community
• Vandalism and illiteracy of parents

1.2.2) The microsystem: System closest to the child and the one in which they have
direct contact. Some examples would be home, school, day care, or the
neighbourhood and this system typically includes family, peers or caregivers
and this is the most influential level of the ecological systems theory. How a
child acts or reacts to these people in the microsystem will affect how they
treat the child in return in return.

The macrosystem: The macrosystem is the actual culture of an individual and
evolves over time, because each generation’s circumstances change. The
cultural contexts involve the socioeconomic status of the child and/or his
family, ethnicity or race, circumstances, customs, beliefs, poverty and laws
shared by the community around the child.

The chronosystem Shows change over time and includes the transitions and
shifts in a person’s lifespan, examples include changes to family structure like
divorce or death, socioeconomic status, schooling, living conditions as well as
events in the country, the region and the world, all have an influence on a
child’s life.

1.2.3) The Social Constructivist Theory.
Mr Leso, believes that all learners can learn if given enough support. Being a
social constructivist teacher, he uses different strategies and activities to
accommodate the diverse learning needs of the learners in his classroom, so
that all the learners can participate using their own style of learning. Social
constructivist approaches that he can use include:
• collaboration
• scaffolding
• cognitive apprenticeship
