1. How to write a characterisation:
- Einleitung/Überleitung:
→ Which character are you writing about?
→ What is the focus? (If there is one)
→ “In the following text I am going to analyse/characterise the character/protagonist … of the
text/short story …"
→ “In the following text I am going to characterise …"
- Hauptteil:
→ personal information (name, age)
→ outward appearance (size build, clothes)
→ behaviour (what does this reveal about their personality?) + feelings and thoughts
→ relationship (how are the relationships to other characters? What does this reveal about the
personality?)
→ development (does the character change in the course of the story? To what extent?)
→ Is the character flat or round?
→ Are there stylistic devices? What do they tell about the character?
- Schluss:
→ summary of the main points (2-4 sentences)
- Struktur und Sprache:
→ paragraphs
→ logical structure in the main part
→ present tense
→ lines and quotations from the text
→ connectives
→ no short forms

- Extended family:
→ consists of grandparents, parents and children
