PURPOSE OF MEDICATION
Expected Pharmacological Action Therapeutic Use
Attaches to beta 2 receptors on bronchial cell Open airway and allow for oxygen increase
membranes. Relax bronchial smooth muscle. (asthma/COPD patients)
Complications Medication Administration
Anxiety, dizziness, tremor, drowsiness, palpitations, 2.5mg three or four times daily
hypertension, tachycardia, hypokalemia by nebulization over 5 to 15 min

Contraindications/Precautions
Hypersensitive to albuterol, arrhythmias, seizure disorders,
decrease in potassium levels, hepatic failure, Nursing Interventions
hyperthyroidism
Monitor serum potassium levels
