ENG 1517

ASSIGNMENT 3

2022

1.1 The poem is about African Animals . The poem is appropriate for Foundation
phase children the content suitable for grade 1 and 2.Also this poem consist of

, pictures of animals which helps students to understand better. The age group of
children this poem will appeal is from the age of 7 to 9.

1.2. The poem may function to improve the memory of children, as a guide to
pronunciation and as a source of classroom entertainment. The poem may function to
improve the memory of children because it allows the listener or reader to be more open
to new perspectives, and it’s even been shown that our brains are actually hardwired for
poetry and can recognize poetic harmony without any training or experience. The poem
may function as a guide to pronunciation because poetry is great for three things which
are rhyme, rhythm and alliteration. Rhyme (when words sound the same) can happen at
the end of lines in a poem, but also with words in the middle of lines. Rhythm (the “beat”
or stress of words) can be regular in classical poetry and in limericks. As you read the
poem, make sure that you stress the right words to keep the rhythm of the lines. In
modern poetry, in particular, the rhythm can be irregular. This helps to show the
meaning of the words and of the poem. Alliteration (when words start with the same
sound) is another way to show meaning and to help you “feel” the message of the
poem. The poem may function as a source of classroom entertainment because it
makes the reader feel the writer's emotion and intentions. Poems makes guides to the
feelings that lie between the lines.

1.3. The action like,”Bend forward, arms down, hands together, swaying” describes the
trunk of the elephant and the way it moves, “swaying” meaning it moves slowly. The
action like,” move from tree to tree with swaying movement” describes the monkey the
way they jump or move from one tree to another. The action,” lie on the ground and
swim “ describes the crocodile. The way crocodiles lay on the ground for sunlight and
swims in the water. The action,”sleep” describes the ways crocodiles sleeps while laying
on the ground for sunlight. The action,”gallop” used to describe how zerbas run away.
The action like, “Arms stretched above head, tiptoe. ”used to describe the giraffe. The
way it is tall. These actions are important in a Foundation Phase classroom because
they improve the memory and are a good source of classroom entertainment.
